Friday 5th June 1942
Lovely day. On Fire Watch in the pm but went home first. Got back about 10pm. Had a private little dance with the Canadians.

Went over to Don's. Met some more relations. Went to Benham's for a dance but did not stop long.
Friday 6th March 1942
Went to Royal Hotel, Russell Sq to a dance. Quite a big affair. All the long dresses coming back.

Played Table Tennis & Danced with the Canadians in the pm. Got home very late so did not stay up long.

Don came over in the afternoon. Don't feel so good myself. Went to a Battersea Garage dance. Not much good but I enjoyed it.
Tuesday 27th January 1942
LTR dance tonight. Very cold morning. Waited for Don in the rain but he was already in the dance. Quite a friendly crowd & much better than I expected.

Don came over in afternoon. His hand is a miniature mountain. It must be an abcess or a boil. Went to a dance at Mitcham & stayed at Don's place in the evening.

Went to Benham's dance. Had a good time. Got home at quarter to one, too late for a bus & couldn't find a taxi till nearly home.

Did not go to work. Don came over in afternoon. Got remainder of my wool then went to the Gaumont. Air Raid warning 1.15 pm to 11pm. Went to meet Hilda from a dance.

Went out looking at the shops with Gladys. Went to the Pictures in pm. Planes collided & crashed on Central Station. 15 killed. Saw wreckage. Pelted with rain in p.m. Went dancing in the Winter Gardens.


According to wikipedia two aircraft — a Blackburn Botha trainer and a Boulton Paul Defiant fighter — collided in midair over the sea, just off Blackpool's central seafront. The debris from the collision was strewn over a large area but a large part of it struck Central Station, causing severe damage and killing twelve people.

Dull brisk morning. Went to the Pleasure Beach in afternoon. Had a lovely time. Went to a supper & dance in pm.

Went to a Home Guard Dance with Don, Hilda & Doris. Enjoyed myself very much.
In other news: HMS Hood was sunk by the Bismarck. Of the 1,418 crew on board, only three survived, pulled from the sea two hours after the explosion which sank the ship.

Went to Benham Works Dance. Celebrated Don's ten bob rise. Saw very little of dance.
Tuesday 29th April 1941
Went to the Battersea Town Hall Dance. Saw Don. Met quite a number of people I know. Had a good time. Got home 11.15pm.
