Lovely morning now. Fred came through & asked me to go to Wembley Saturday. Expect I shall go. Stopped in all evening.

Friday 15th May 1942

Up early. Met Fred & saw Reap the Wild Wind". The best film I’ve seen for ages. Went to Princes & had a couple of drinks.

Monday 11th May 1942

Don starts work again today. Fred rang me first thing this morning. Don came over from work. Stopped in & helped Hilda do her homework.

Thursday 9th April 1942

Saw Fred in the pm. Saw "Get a Load of This" but thought it was tripe. Fred on Fire Watch so got in at 9.30pm.

Friday 27th February 1942

Saw Fred. Went to see Hellsapoppin [sic]. Did not think a lot of it. Would rather see Hold That Ghost.

Thursday 12th February 1942

Feel very tired. Saw Fred in the evening. Went to the Metropole. Saw "The Chocolate Soldier". Very good. Went & had a drink at Princes. Got me at 10.30.

Wednesday 21st January 1942

Snow very thick still. Went to see Gangway again with Freddie Beryl & the Gang. Had dinner at the Griffin in Villiers St. Had a very nice time.

Saturday 17th January 1942

Going to Wembley. Bit cold. Met Fred. Quite a lively crowd at the Match. England one 3-0 Scotland didn't seem to play at all. Went up West & saw the films at the Carlton. Saw "World Premiere" & "Among the Living". Quite good films. One funny & the other creepy.

Tuesday 13th January 1942

Fred rang me this morning. Wanted to know if I'm going to Wembley on Saturday with him. Don't feel so good. Caught a cold. Went to the Chelsea Palace with Don.

Tuesday 6th January 1942

Moonlight morning. Fred came through. Going to see "Lady Behave". Very good indeed I laughed all the way through. Fred appears to be rather full up inside.

Monday 5th January 1942

Told Fred about our engagement. He took it very well. Wants to see me tomorrow to celebrate. Don came over in evening. We were supposed to be having a party tomorrow to get rid of the beer that's left.

Saw Fred & tried to break the news but couldn't. Dropped some very big hints though.

Wednesday 24th December 1941

Christmas Eve. Went off early. Beryl, Harry, Wynne, Fred & Don came over. All went up West for a drink. Not very successful.

Monday 22nd December 1941

Had ½ day. Saw "Gangway" with Fred Bebe Daniels & Ben Lyon. Very good show.

Saturday 20th December 1941

Beryl has not got engaged yet. Fred has got six stitches in his shin. Don't know how he did it yet.

Wednesday 17th December 1941

Saw Fred. Went to the Dominion. Saw "Hi Gang" & Andy Hardy film. Had a good laugh.

Saturday 13th December 1941

Fred came through seeing him this afternoon. Had drink & tried to get a handbag, but shop was shut. Saw "Hatter's Castle" at the Carlton. Very good film. Went on Fire Watch later in the evening.

Thursday 11th December 1941

Can get a lighter at Selfridges. Got one. Fred got off with his club fine. Went over to Don's. Had drink & came home.

Wednesday 10th December 1941

Had ½ day, but can't get Fred a lighter. Went to the Granville with Mum, Hilda & Fred.

Tuesday 9th December 1941

Went to the Pavilion with Fred & saw "Wild Geese Calling" quite a good film. Had a drink at Princes.
