Hilda was supposed to meet Don's lad Harry, but he couldn't turn up. Don & I went for a walk & a drink.

Miserable morning. Don came over in the evening. We did not go out as it rained so much.

Don rang me to say he would be over but he didn't come. He must have had to go on Home Guard.

Freddie Barnard came up again. Don came up in the afternoon. Went to see "How Green Was My Valley" at the New Vic. Very good film. Girl next to Don sobbed her eyes out.

Don came over in the p.m. He's got to pay ½ as much Income Tax again. Played cards with Hilda.

Wynne still on holiday but not been through yet. Don came over in the evening as he's not on Home Guard.

Went over to Mitcham. Watered all the garden. Don had an interview & gone back to his old HG Company. Quite his old self again.

Chilly morning. Met Don at the Forum. Quite good films. Liked the new star Alan Ladd. Don caught his last bus home.

Went off from work early & went shopping with Don's mum. Got 3 tablecloths & 3 pillowcases & Don's mum bought me another tablecloth for my birthday.

My 20th Birthday. Don had ½ day & got tickets for "Happidrome". Very good show except for Hutch. Went out for a drink with Mum afterwards.

Lovely morning now. Fred came through & asked me to go to Wembley Saturday. Expect I shall go. Stopped in all evening.

Went to the New Vic & saw “The Died with their Boots On” & the “Night has Eyes”. Very good programme which Hilda and I enjoyed very much.

Worked until 7 then went to a YAC meeting. Got home quite late. Washed my hair then went to bed.

Went to the Park with Hilda & Eric. Met Don over there. He'd got his bike out. Went to Mitcham in the afternoon but as it was so dull did not go out.

On Fire Watch tonight & Don on HG. Met don in the pm for a little while. Played Table Tennis till one am Friday morning.

Played Billiards with Dad in the am. Had late dinner then went to the Granada Tooting. Not a bad film. Don left late again.

Don & Helen came at 2 o’clock. We all went to Hampton Court on the river. Went back to Mitcham. Had a lovely time. Bought fish & chips on the way home. Went back to Mitcham on the last bus.

Don came over in the p.m. Hilda Don & I went out for a spree. Went to the Sussex, then Daly’s then to the new pub we found. Had a lovely time.

Don's uncle died at nine o'clock this morning. Mrs Foord & I arrived at the hospital at eleven. Evelyn & Jack & Don's mum came up for a cup of tea.

Went to meet Don's mum at the Hospital. Don's uncle very ill. Don's mum & Marjorie came back for a cup of tea. Don & I left it too late to go to the dance so we stopped in at Mitcham. Don's Mum came in at eleven. We all went to bed very late.

Going to Wembley. Bit cold. Met Fred. Quite a lively crowd at the Match. England one 3-0 Scotland didn't seem to play at all. Went up West & saw the films at the Carlton. Saw "World Premiere" & "Among the Living". Quite good films. One funny & the other creepy.

Got up about 8.15am. Had breakfast went for a walk across the Common with Don, Mum, Hilda. Don & I came home at 1pm. Had forty winks during afternoon on sofa.

Got up late. Very drizzly morning. Got an hour off so leaving at 10.30am. Having an engagement party at Don's today. Jack came home from Spain today. So it was really a double party. Kept it up till about 4am.

Not too bad a day. On Fire Watch in evening. Got permission & went down the Palais for a couple of hours. Had quite a nice time.

Very dark morning. Saw the New Year in with a drop of Don's special port. Hope he feels better today. He came over late in evening & is very much brighter.

Don came over in the am but we did not go to the East India Docks as Mum was not well. Stayed in all day. Wants me to have a ½ day tomorrow as he's on leave.
